Leprechaun Trap
Materials:
- Boxes, such as shoe, tissue and/or oatmeal containers.
- Paper towel tubes, yogurt containers, milk and/or egg cartons.
- Green paper or craft foam
- Gold glitter and glitter glue
- Crayons, markers and/or colored pencils.
- Stickers, pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks and paper plates
- Scissors
- Hole punch
- Leprechaun bait such as coins, gold sequins, four leaf clovers, gold colored jewelry or Lucky Charms cereal.
- Treats like gold or green wrapped candies, cookies or money.
Directions:
- Place all the supplies on a covered table.
- Let the kids use supplies to build their Leprechaun Trap.
- Have kids add a rainbow and some "leprechaun treasure" to attract leprechauns to the trap!
- Attach a string to a treat. Then attach the string to the tube that props the box open. When the leprechaun grabs the treasure, the box may trap a leprechaun!
- On the evening of March 16th, set out the trap(s).
- Release the trap after the day care kids leave...and leave toys or treats behind.
- On St Patrick's Day, the kids will see the trap worked, but reassure the kids that leprechauns are too tricky to be caught! Then enjoy the fun treats that were left behind.
